Patea boxing robe

robe

This boxing robe has ‘Pātea’ on the back. Well, we presume it’s a boxing robe, as it was donated with a suitcase full of Pātea Boxing Club documents! Patea has it’s very own Champion Boxer, Dennis McKenna, who you can see here.

Hand-to-hand combat has always been around since the dawn of time, but the origin of boxing as an organised sport began with its acceptance by the ancient Greeks as an Olympic game in BC 688. Boxing evolved from the 16th and 18th century prize fights, largely in Great Britain, to the forerunner of modern boxing in the mid-19th century.
