Some of the people who come to the Museum are looking for information about family members. Many people are starting with a lot of information about relations they already have strong ties with. Others know little about their relatives and are looking for any tiny scraps of information that might help them build up their personal jigsaw.
As we celebrate International Museum day 2014, with the theme of Museum collections making connections, I can’t help but think about all the letters, diaries and photos we have in our wonderful archive. How many families have information tucked away that they don’t even know exists? Thank goodness over time our archives are becoming increasingly useable and searchable. One day we’ll even have it all digitised…but that’s day is a wee way off yet!
