Just 20 hours a year; that’s all it takes. 20 hours! Surely you can squeeze 20 hours a year out of your busy schedule? If the answer’s a definite maybe, you could be just the person we are looking for.
Oh, you want to know who ‘we’ are? We’re Trustees with the South Taranaki District Museum Trust; we own the collections in the care of Aotea Utanganui Museum of South Taranaki, and the buildings those collections are housed in. Some of us are members of the Patea Historical Society, some are avid collectors in our own right, we’re all passionate about preserving the South Taranaki District’s heritage.
That’s right – South Taranaki, not just Patea. We exist to “preserve and display Taonga Maori, artefacts and treasures relating to the South Taranaki District and provide a storehouse for our cultural heritage”. That means whether you’re from Waitotara, Rawhitiroa or Pihama, we’re telling your story and care about your artefacts. It also means you’re welcome on the Trust, in fact we’d be delighted to have you join us. Currently meetings are held in Patea, but that isn’t always the case, and we carpool to save petrol.
What are we looking for? We’re looking for three Trustees who care about the preservation of our history, who don’t mind getting their hands dirty at a working bee, and who have just twenty or so hours a year to offer to a good cause. If this sounds like you contact Jim and Donna on 06 278 4344 for more information.
And yes, the Museum is always looking for volunteers who have suitable skills and time to contribute. Contact us on 06 278 0555 for more information.
